Meet Vanderlei, he is a Data Engineer and BI at ALTEN Portugal. One of his goals is to be an excellent ALTEN reference. Keep reading to know more about him…

I am Vanderlei and I come from Brazil. Before coming to ALTEN, I have worked for about 18 years in technology fields. I worked for about seven years with Java Development, five years with Integration (IBM and Oracle) SOA, BPM, JMS, etc. Four years ago, I started studying Big Data and for the last three years, I have been working in the Big Data area. Thanks to that I learned a lot more about technologies. I am currently a Data Engineer.

 What’s your role at ALTEN?

I started working in November 2019 as a Data Engineer and BI. I am in the support/infrastructure team for the BI Integration Processes (MicroStrategy and IBM DataStage) and Haddop (Cloudera) working in the administration, monitoring, process and production environment improvements.

Why did you choose our company to work?

ALTEN had caught my attention by the types of customers it has and their services. It is a company in the field of engineering that is present in various sectors of industry and commerce. I think I found a great opportunity for professional growth at ALTEN.

What do you think is the most important technological challenge today?

Hard question. But I have been following the evolution that Big Data has been making, especially in the area of Health. Where cancer research is always making good progress. It is true that this progress is achieved thanks to the help of artificial intelligence. I have to say that working with Big Data is something I really enjoy because I’m always studying and learning new technologies.

Vanderlei, what are the things you value most at work?

I think they would be teamwork and the opportunity to teach and learn.

What are your biggest strengths?

I try to be an accessible person to anyone. I always try to learn and help. I think I am participative and consider myself a self-taught.

Tell us more about yourself. Do you have any hobbies or talents?

Well, as my relatives are not in Portugal, so in my free time, I am with my closest family: my wife and my two children. We used to go for walks in the park, playing ball, play video games with my children… But I also have time for myself, I like to take care of my grapes, making my own wines…

How would you like a day off?

Being with the people I like. Family and friends at home or in the park, both are great.

What goals do you want to achieve in a short time?

Immediately, I want to be technically good to help the team a lot and, as a result of this, be an excellent ALTEN reference.
